Knowledge valorisation: NCP-IP supports the national implementation of the new EU guiding principles

Knowledge valorisation significantly expands the understanding of knowledge and technology transfer. The diversity of perspectives is brought to the fore in the creation of knowledge and all types of intellectual assets beyond technology and intellectual property rights and the inclusion of all actors in the research and innovation ecosystem, as well as the social impact of research and innovation, is emphasized. In addition, in the area of intellectual property rights, the expanded term “intellectual assets” (IA) vs. “intellectual property” (IP), which is intended to go beyond that of formal intellectual property rights, is used. Furthermore, standardization is discussed for the first time as another important channel in the exploitation of knowledge.

In recent years, the Council of the European Union has also created concrete foundations for the implementation of this approach by issuing central reference documents. These include the guiding principles and four codes of conduct. The NCP-IP will be further developed as an interministerial knowledge transfer platform with regard to the new approach to knowledge valorization and its implications and will thereby support the national implementation of these important reference documents.

In order to develop the most important interfaces for the NCP-IP from the new guiding principles, an accompanying study was commissioned. As part of the study development, two stakeholder workshops were held that dealt intensively with the four codes of conduct on knowledge valorization.
